Great New Book Out On Networking

Joe Sweeney combined his love of business with his passion for sports, to write the book  Networking is a Contact Sport, chronicling his early networking finesse (even as a boy) and how others can emulate his networking success. Emphasizing the importance of staying connected with the people who cross your path in life, many of his insights extend beyond business and sports:

The book is filled with takeaway tips, including 10 points for effective marketing:

  1. Be clear about your objectives and outcomes.
  2. Do your research.
  3. Don’t be afraid to ask.
  4. Get comfortable with traveling outside your comfort zone.
  5. Try, try, try – and then try again in a creative way.
  6. Do your best to connect the dots.
  7. Seek out in-person contact; there’s no substitute for the personal touch.
  8. Take 100 percent responsibility for your networking.
  9. Treat others as you would want to be treated.
  10. Present an offer to help others before you ask for anything.

Joe was president of the Wisconsin Sports Authority, founder of a sports marketing agency that specializes in assisting and representing coaches and athletes, and currently is a managing director of an investment banking firm that brokers business transactions and raises capital for middle-market businesses.

The book also includes Joe’s expertise on networking personality styles, identifying traits on both sides of a networking relationship and how to connect in a positive way to all types of people.
