I have a hard time letting myself off the hook so easily. Over the last couple of years, I have seen The Secret many times, read a lot of books, learned about the Sodona method of letting go, learned about resistence from Abraham-Hicks, read about how to change habits, listened for hours from many well known and some of the best, authors, teachers, mentors and coaches.
I know what I need to do. I know the habits of visualization and meditation and others that I need to make a part of my life and yet have not. Reading about the Amygdala may explain some things. But I cannot help but think about all the successful people who have "made it" without all the tools that I have at my disposal.
However, I feel that "success" is just around the corner for me. My focus has been like a laser for several months now and I am constantly being given ideas and hunches and information that I have acted on.
While the mentors in my life will admit that they, too, have had help in the way of other people, "success" seems to come so easily to them. For me, I have been studying myself (self development)for two years with major focus and changes in the last couple of mnoths. Is it taking me THAT long to reprogram my Amygdala? Why is it that others seem to reprogram theirs instantly? (so to speak)
For people who have never heard of The Secret, have never read a self-help book or listened to a motivational speaker, they could use the "excuse" of their Amygdala. But I have a hard time putting the blame on mine.
This information was very benefical though in understanding myself and others better. I really appreciate the information and added knowlege in how people think. (including myself)It sure was interesting to learn.

While I can embrace the thought, "it's not your fault," I like to actually own all events in my experience. That way I feel I have the power to change them to something that feels better.
I just keep reminding myself that it was the "old" me that created an experience that doesn't suit me, and now the "new" me can create a better match.
Thanks, John, for all your offerings.

I found it comforting to hear "it's not your fault" I thought about how after years of counseling I was able to tell my mother the same thing and how much better she felt at the time.
We are all products of those who raised us and how our education in how to believe what we do, from the family values we had.. and many times they were not of the highest caliber.

That is interesting, Waas, as I just read that same thing today in Deepak Chopra's book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. He mentions in the chapter on the fifth law, The Law of Intention and Desire, to follow five steps to fulfilling your desires.

Step three is to remain in the state of self-referral (established in the awareness of your true Self). He goes on to say "A helpful way to maintain that state of self-referral is to keep your desires to yourself; do not share them with anyone else unless they share the exact same desires you have and are closely bonded with you."

I hope it is OK that I quoted from his book online.

He also states one reason for this is so you will not be influenced by the opinions and criticisms of others.

I also wonder how John feels about this

Hey John:
I followed your eight part e-mail series on the 7 natuaral laws, Have seen the "SECRET". Right now I just don't have some extra $ to buy your "Street Kids Guide Book..." Never mind. In my life, I've been a laid back person most of the time, but your stuff has changed me. I am getting more and more enthused about this stuff.
One question: I read an darticle that said, SILENCE IS POWER. It warns me not to share your goals with others until the results have surfaced completely. Is that true ?

Hello,

When recurring issues surface for me, I understand that a choice must be made at that very instant. I can choose to allow the thought or the reaction to the thought to command my attention and let myself continue in that direction or I can choose to acknowledge the thought and immediately replace that thought with a thought of my own choosing. Preferably, a priorly emotionalized visualization of what I have desired to achieve or obtain.

Sometimes this is not so easily done in a hectic, stressful environment, but that environment would have been of my choosing as well.
The power of choice, for me, is one of the three greatest powers I possess.
With gratitude,
Dean
