Hi Friends,
Another great book to read by my friend Debbie Ford. I love to read and hopefully you do also.
Most of us were taught that if we just wrap ourselves in enough layers, create a convincing enough persona or hide behind an attractive enough mask, people won’t discover (or, more to the point, we won’t discover) that we are flawed, imperfect, and insecure. We wrap ourselves in the layers of our false self to conceal that we are talented, brilliant, and more fortunate than those around us. It’s downright exhausting to keep hiding and denying parts of ourselves. Eventually, like a beach ball held under water, they pop up and smack us in the face. This is the birth of self-sabotage.
Why Good People Do Bad Things, a bold new book that takes us behind the facade of the false self, guides us to heal the split between our ego and our soul and live the authentic life that is well within our reach. You can learn more about the book here.
Stop inhibiting yourself and start living the life of your dreams!
To your Having It All,
John

I’d like to clarify a few simple concepts about the brain, consciousness, and the mind.
The brain is the organ of the central nervous system that has the greatest number of neurons clustered together. When neurons are in great number, we have intelligence. As a matter of fact, the brain consists of some one hundred billion neurons that are connected in a myriad of three-dimensional patterns. The diverse combinations of these billions of neurons linked together and firing in unique sequences are neural networks or neural nets, as they are affectionately called by scientists. When nerve cells team up and make new connections, it is because we learned something new. We are, therefore, changed by our individual learning as well as personal experiences.
Nerve cells or neurons are extremely tiny. About 30,000 – 50,000 fit on the tip of a pin. In one part of the brain called the neocortex, each nerve cell has the possibility of linking with 40,000 – 50,000 other nerve cells. In another section of the brain called the cerebellum, nerve cells have the potential of connection with up to a million other nerve cells.
Because the human brain affords so many possible connections between neurons, and because neurons are unique cells that can communicate directly with each other, the brain is able to process thought, perform actions, demonstrate behaviors, speculate possibilities, remember experiences, and learn new things, just to name a few. Therefore, the brain is the instrument that facilitates conscious awareness.
Let’s talk now about consciousness. Consciousness is not the same thing as the brain. Think of consciousness as what inhabits and occupies this bio-computer called the brain. We have the ability to think and, at the same time, observe our own thinking process. Consciousness is our awareness of self and our awareness of the world around us. Equally, it is that intelligence in us that consistently and consciously gives us life, moment by moment.
Therefore, there are two elements to our consciousness. Part of consciousness maintains an individual free will–the part of you and me that is a thinking personality with our own traits and characteristics. This is the conscious aspect of our selves with certain unique qualities. It is subjective and it therefore has the ability to learn, to remember, to create, to dream, to choose, and even to not choose. We will call this part of consciousness, secondary consciousness.
The other element of consciousness, which we’ll call primary consciousness or the subconscious, has to do with the intelligent awareness within us that gives us life every day. This is a system of awareness that is separate from the conscious mind. It is what keeps our body in order. Thus, as a bio-computer, the brain has the ability to process trillions of automatic functions every second on a cellular level and an aggregate level as well, of which we are consciously unaware. Specific parts of the brain possess specialized anatomy to manage these rudimentary processes. These are the aspects of our health and life that we take for granted every day, the systems that control our heart, digest our food, filter our blood, regenerate cells, and even organize our DNA.
This intelligence knows so much more than what our personality self knows (even though we think we know it all). It takes a great and unlimited consciousness to be so responsible for all of these functions. Few ever stop to acknowledge its power, will, and infinite intelligence.
This aspect of consciousness is what gives life to all things. It is objective and constant. It is the quantum field, the source, point zero, and the void. It is the Observer that observes, holds, and collapses the quantum field into physical form. It is a real intelligence with quantifiable energy or force that is innate to all things. It is, literally, life. Quantum physics, as we are learning, is just beginning to measure this field of potentials.
We as human beings possess both elements of consciousness; we have free will to choose life as we like it, and at the same time, some greater intelligence is giving and allowing us life every second. We are consciously aware as secondary consciousness, and we are connected to primary consciousness. We could not exist without this force of life. As a matter of fact, science is now beginning to understand that everything physical (including you and me) is just the tip of an immense iceberg. The question is, what is the field that holds it all together and how do we make contact with it?
The brain has the equipment, so to speak, to facilitate both these levels of consciousness. When consciousness is facilitated through the human brain, the end result is called mind. Mind is what the brain does. Mind is the brain at work, the brain in action. It is produced when an operating brain is animated with life. There is no mind without the physical expression of life through a working brain.
Mind, then, is the product of consciousness manipulating this fine instrument called the brain. The brain without consciousness is inert and lifeless. Since both of these specific levels of consciousness animate the brain to create mind, we must possess two different arrangements at work in the brain. We have conscious mind and subconscious mind embroidered in two diverse brain processes.
Naturally, the brain has two distinct generalized systems with the proper hardware to facilitate these two types of consciousness. The home of conscious awareness in our brain is in the neocortex, which is our thinking brain. The “crown” of our brain, the neocortex is the seat of our free-willed personality. It is the part of the brain that makes each of us unique, that distinguishes us from other individuals. The neocortex, therefore, is where the secondary consciousness lives. All of our individual experiences and willful learning in this lifetime are recorded and processed in the neocortex.
The parts of the brain that function under subconscious control are the midbrain, the cerebellum, and the brainstem. For the most part, these regions have no conscious centers. However, they do possess an intelligence that not only keeps the body in order, but handles an infinite to-do list. Thank God, you and I as conscious beings do not have to be responsible for 100,000 chemical reactions per second in every cell of the 70 to 100 trillion cells of our body. The consciousness that uses these parts of the brain is literally our connection to the quantum field or primary consciousness.
To summarize, then, the brain is the organ that consciousness uses to manipulate thoughts into learning and experiences. Mind is the product of the brain in action. Mind operates when the brain is “alive,” processing conscious and subconscious mechanisms. Consciousness has two specific qualities. Primary consciousness is the observer, the source, the quantum field, and you and I are connected to it by the way our brain is hooked up to that field through the midbrain, the cerebellum, and the brainstem. Secondary consciousness is the traveler, the free-will personality that learns and evolves its understandings for a greater expression of life. Its home is the neocortex.
When we can unify our conscious mind to that infinite mind with unlimited potentials, we now have access to a world of new possibilities. As a matter of fact, there is a specific science that studies what happens in the brain when we emulate the observer. When we begin to enact our God-given right to create, we eclipse with the observer. Now the observer as primary consciousness is observing our observation as secondary consciousness. Once we understand how the brain works to create mind, we can begin our journey into unknown future potentials. Celebrate the genius that is you!
John

hi john and everyone,
it is so nice to see this post on your blog. from unconscious incompetence to conscious competenece, this post is a part of the bridge that is forming to help humans to illuminate this gap. when reading this post john I can ‘feel’ your neurons linking in this new space of re-membering. i use re-member, to illuminate ‘making whole’. your work is apart of the ism schism/belief relief work being done to help us all reconnect our brains/minds back to larger Mind! the awe-sum power of nature is pulsing and at work, may we all be guided to come back into wholeness with this power and begin to create a new world from the inside-out!Dear John,
Since i’ve watched The Secret, you’ve become an inspiration for me!
As per the article, it’s perfectly written, allowing non-scientific people to understand and to grasp such scientific infos.

Hi John, I am a big lover of that part of the Mediterraean. My brother owns a home in Mougins (where Roger Verget has his restaurant Moulins to Mougins) Yes – Scott’s name means Mill or windmill in French!. Be sure to visit my favorite town St. Jean Cap Ferrat between Nice and Menton while you are in the area. If you get an hour or so past Portofino make sure to visit Portovenere – similar- much less touristic – I spent time there last summer. The thing is – unless – Although it would be great to spend quality time with you and your wisdom and knowledge – a trip to Europe for me has to fit in with other things with family – my family in London and France and my son who lives in Madrid – Of course if all my coaching works and I am making a ton of money by then maybe I will be able to afford it – but as of now its a NO. Maybe if it doesn’t sell out you’ll put another post up nearer the time and it might be possible. I trying visualizing it as so. Best to you. Juliette http://www.whoisjuliettegray.net

I am on my way to get there….GabiHi John,
Once again I shake my head at the detractors. The whole incredible journey we undertake to elevate self-awareness and build a life of success and abundance, is to enjoy wonderful opportunities such as you offer here.
The quality of the experience, coupled with the incredible speakers, makes this a truly wonderful and awe inspiring experience.
Of course, not everyone will have the ability to accept the offer: That occurs in any self-help program and indeed, in any aspect of our lives. It truly is about finding what suits you and what you feel will give you the best personal and professional advantages. There are many courses in the marketplace which whilst we would love to attend, we may find through a variety of circumstances, we are unable to do so.
I congratulate you on this wonderful offer. If individuals can afford to participate then I urge them to do so. If they cannot, take steps to improve your life so that you will have the means at your disposal to take advantage of this and other wonderful offers in the future.
I came from an average background and continue to build a life of which I am proud. Others should do the same. Rather than admonish you for this wonderful gesture, they should congratulate you for providing an incredible backdrop to what will be a possible life-changing and truly unforgettable experience.
I urge everyone to begin right now to respect yourselves and put in place those building blocks which will build that life you want. It is possible and rather than sit back and pass judgment on those who continue to do so, have gratitude for the life you can have if only you believe in yourself and your ability. Open your eyes and your hearts and embrace every day.
Congratulations amigo.

This situation has changed my life to hell, and I live inclined to fear, agitation and nervousness. I take pains from this situation very much, and I don’t know to what I do. I wish to my mother be cured soon, and I think that I have done anything that was necessary to her remedy. I think that I oppressed a person and then I felt sin, therefore I feel this problem occured for me because of this feel (feel sin).

Hi John, This book sounds along the lines of Eckart Tolle’s writings. The bad things are a thirst in people to feed the ego. The thirst of inadequacy that requires that kind of ego feeding is a result of years of mental conditioning from childhood onward compounded by the media and our modern society’s constant barraging of “stuff” on us that is supposed to make us and be more.
All these things can compound to blowing up in our face. That wouldn’t be so bad if the bad standards we impose on ourselves didn’t have a ripple effect on other people that come into our lives. The key I am told is living in the moment and detaching from the ego. Your work on neuro reconditioning plays a big part in this if people follow your philosophy of how the brain works and then put it to good use. I am working on this myself – one action always brings about a reaction and as soon as it is done the ripple effect begins. As Omar Khayyam said The Moving Finger writes, and having writ moves on and nor all thy piety or wit shall lure it back to cancel half a line nor all thy tears wash out a word of it. Maybe I am off base but I’d like to hear your opinion about how you can bring the contents of these types of books into our lives to improve the now and correct the past in a positive way not just for ourselves but for the people who our “bad things” have affected. Thanks. Juliette Gray http://www.whoisjuliettegray.net

I shall be ordering this book, as I too have been told I ‘sabotage’ myself ! It seems I have been led to this, maybe its the Law of Attraction working already !!
Thanks John for the recomendation! Sounds like a promising book. Wow, I could not agree more with the above. Life’s lessons within good people’s Lifes are sometimes
deffinately downright neccesary to evolve from and to become an even better person, to be absolutely sertain that “this” is not the way you want to go.
and “that” is.
It makes you focus.
It’s Like Winston Churchill Said (and so many others): “Having success means getting up 1 more time, then you have been falling down”
Nice title by the way.
God Bless, Henri

Funny that this blog was posted today. My business partner has been causing me grief and this blog could not come at a better time. Makes sense.

Looks like a great book to read and a thought-provoking title. Sometimes good people do bad things because of certain circumstances they find themselves in. It doesn’t necessarily make it right but we shouldn’t be quick to judge.
Also, people who have done “bad things” often turn their lives around and join the ranks of society’s greatest positive contributors.
I believe that under these circumstances, the bad patch that these individuals go through is critical to helping them shape their character.
